On Thursday night, Professor Borozinski took our class to see the speakers from The Onion. The Onion is a parody newspaper that prints an issue a week in 10 cities, as well as online. John Harris and Will Tracy are two writers from the Onion. They started off their presentation by giving a brief history on the paper. It clearly was all made up, as is the rest of the Onion. They showed us a couple of articles that the paper has published. My favorite of the night had the headline "Trapped Chilean Miners Considering How Funny It Would Be If They All Died Right As Rescuers Completed Tunnel"(read the article here). I'm sure you can get the gist of this news source by that headline. Another of my favorite's was "Poll: 1 in 5 Americans Believe Obama is a Cactus" (read the article here). Tracy and Harris said "We cover when someone does something stupid" and later "We don't shit on people for no reason, we go after people who deserve it."
Well done, Onion, well done.
