WARNING: These are not my words. I do not agree with ANY of the words in the following picture. If you continue to read this post, please know that you will most likely feel a sense of anger that you have never felt before. At least I did...
"This must be a joke, right?" Unfortunately... it's not. These people are dead serious. How are you feeling right now? Do you want to scream? Do you want to punch something? Yeah, me too. The WBC is probably the hardest thing for me to handle. The Wesboro Baptist Church is a "church" (more like a cult) that preaches hate. They believe that America is doomed and everyone is going to hell because we allow homosexuality. Their website is www.godhatesfags.com. I think you can get the picture just be seeing their URL. When they picket, their signs say things such as "Thank God for dead soldiers," "God hates fags," "Thank God for 9/11," "Pray for more dead soldiers." I think you get the point. I can't even write about them without getting so angry I feel like there is steam coming out of my ears. I don't believe in violence, but when ever I read about the WBC, I feel like hurting them all. Now, I would never actually hurt them (I'd be too afraid!), so I think the best way to react is with love. I know this sounds crazy and hard, and believe me, it is! But what else can you do? When the WBC protests at things such soldiers funerals or other big events, there is almost always counter protestors. They come and stand on the other side of the street with messages of love. I did this in the winter of 2008. I won't lie and tell you it was fun or easy. I wanted to cry the entire time. There were 5-year-olds holding signs that had the WBC's signature phrase: "God hates fags." FIVE YEAR OLDS! I am happy to say though, there are usually more lovers than haters, and in our case, they were outnumbered by at least 100.
